Carnival Corp. Chairman and CEO Micky Arison will take part in panel discussion at World Travel Market 2012 examining the cruise industry after the Costa Concordia disaster. Also scheduled to take part in the Nov. 6 discussion are Carnival U.K. Managing Director David Dingle and Costa Cruises and AIDA Managing Director Michael Thamm.
The discussion is part of the Travel Weekly Cruise Debate that will be moderated by Travel Weekly Group U.K. Editor-in-Chief Lucy Huxley. A fourth speaker has yet to be confirmed. Arison is expected to participate via a live video link.
The speakers will discuss the industry after the Costa Concordia ran aground in January off the coast of Italy, killing 32 crew and passengers. The industry has also dealt with fluctuating oil prices.
“The cruise sector is such a vital part of our industry that it was bound to be given a strong focus at WTM 2012,” said Simon Press, director of World Travel Market for Reed Travel Exhibitions. “It is particularly vital following the events this year that we not only focus on how it has fared in the immediate aftermath of the Costa Concordia tragedy but also what the future brings. We are sure this debate featuring such high caliber speakers from the cruise industry will prove popular with the event’s delegates.”
